Einstein in Brown's Woods If you are a University of Guelph student or a community member interested in volunteering for the redirection of the Wild Bird Clinic's educational program (WEEP), please click here for details.

As of January 1, 2006 the Ontario Veterinary College Wild Bird Clinic is no longer able to provide free veterinary care to wildlife. For over 20 years we have offered a variety of services to the public and to other wildlife professionals through funding and support provided by the Veterinary Teaching Hospital and the Department of Pathobiology. Due to budget cutbacks this is no longer possible. We regret the closure deeply, but must operate within current fiscal realities.

The Ministry of Natural Resources has provided a list of licenced Guelph-area rehabilitators and the type of wildlife they are qualified to look after. Please make sure to contact only those rehabilitators who are qualified to handle the type of animal you have found.

The Guelph Humane Society will also accept or pick up injured wildlife (any type of animal). They are located at 500 Wellington Street West, Guelph, Ontario and their phone number is 519-824- 3091. The shelter is open:

Monday to Friday 9:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m.
Saturday 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.
Sunday Closed

The Guelph Humane Society also offers an out-of-hours emergency service for injured animals including wildlife - the telephone number is 519-220-9850.
Alternatively, there are two wildlife rehabilitation centres in the Toronto region that have veterinarians on staff and provide a range of veterinary and rehabilitation services.

Wild animals or birds should be handled as little as possible. If they must be moved they should be placed into a cardboard box, animal carrier, or other enclosure and kept in a dark and quiet environment for transportation to the Humane Society or another facility, or until a pickup can be arranged. We regret any inconvenience this closure may produce, and appreciate the fact that you are concerned about our wildlife.
